  • What is a chamber, anyway?

A chamber of commerce is an organization of businesses seeking to further their collective interests while advancing the community, region, state or nation. The very first one began in 1599 in France! The U.S. Chamber of Commerce was created in 1912 after President William Taft suggested the need for cooperation between business and government.

The Fargo Chamber of Commerce was established in 1879, and merged with Moorhead in 1997, followed by West Fargo in 2010. Today, we're one of the largest local chambers in the Midwest.

A collective voice through an association like a chamber matters because we can do more together. With your support, we can work for you, for the community. We know that a strong business climate is essential for economic growth and prosperity as a region.

    Why be a member?

Membership with The Chamber is an investment in you, your employees, your business and your community. It means you join businesses of all sizes and sectors to become a force working for the greater good of our region.

When an organization becomes a member of The Chamber, it also means that all employees of that organization are also members, and can enjoy the resources, access and benefits that come along with membership.

  • What are businesses saying about their Chamber membership?

  • “Your events are top-notch, and we’re proud to put our name on those. I don’t think there’s a better way to get our name out in the community than to be a sponsor of a Chamber event. There are so many people in our community that go to Chamber events. It’s bigger than just our business; it’s the business of the region. It’s so important to network and be in the room with a quality group.

There are a few places I’ve met high-quality people, and The Chamber’s Leadership program is one of the places I’ve met some of the best people in my life. I have people in many industries now that went through what I went through, that I respect and can visit with.

We’re pretty active in the legislative side too, we’ve gone to Bismarck with The Chamber. The legislative work The Chamber does is really important to the business community.” – Kurt Lysne, Moore Engineering, Inc.

  • “The Chamber has helped me grow my network in Fargo-Moorhead. It really made being in town for school to being in town as a professional a nice transition. I love being involved with The Chamber!”
    – Erica Johnsrud, Dale Carnegie of ND and MN

  • “The Chamber gives me the opportunity to stay plugged into what is happening in the business community, and it’s a valuable vehicle to foster a network. It keeps me connected.” Gregory Wald, Moore Engineering, Inc.

  • “I have made plenty of mistakes over my decade-plus in non-profit organizations, but joining the FMWF Chamber is not on that list. The Chamber has brought me, business development, compelling training, and opportunities to network, but more so the chamber has provided a place for meaningful relationships. The friendships I have made since joining the chamber have been worth more to me than any business lead!” – John H Fisher, FRIENDS OF THE CHILDREN—Fargo-Moorhead

  • “By being listed in The Chamber’s online membership directory, and linking back to my website, my local SEO has gone up without me paying for Google Adwords. Being a member helps my brand and my visibility to new clients! Thanks to The Chamber, my last two clients searched for graphic design in Fargo, and chose me.” – Sue Skavlem, Skavlem Designs
